Well looks like the heatsinks are in the wind again, can we just finish this thing?

18-May, Mark shows up
19-May, Take the week

If something were happening...or about to...wouldn't there be some news to support that?

Against the possibility that a custom heat spreader will materialize, I must ask: To what benefit?

As this forum has chosen the moniker "DIY"...I support that, I'll do that...

send the parts.

Intended benefit was that these were not to be dealt with in dribs and drabs, was to be all units packed and sent once.

At the original planned distribution times both qusp and I had more time on our hands to cut and organise. We all know that time has now passed. The keratherm was to be cut as final task before they're packed and sent (to be sure it wasn't cut to suit a heat spreader that does not materialise), this is now being organised as cutting strips of keratherm isn't a fun task so I was hoping to be able to lend a hand there. I don't have much free time in next week and that is reliant on my free time lining up with qusp's. qusp and I are already talking about that organisation offline.

I can certainly appreciate the intended benefit. Where we are now has, on balance, resulted in a loss of that benefit.

Are you saying the heat sinks are done? If that is the case, say so.

At one point I asked if the keratherm could be cut with scissors. My point was to suggest that each of the end users be allowed to tailor the material to their needs. Give the users of the keratherm a sheet or appropriate share, uncut, and be done with it...whether it is to be cut with scissors or razor blade is not important enough to hold hostage...delay the delivery of parts to others who do not want it.

What is the hold up?

I have had no word from hypertune since I last posted about it, qusp said he heard something about some material being cut in preparation (I'm pretty sure he posted about that too), since then, I know nothing. qusp may shed some light, though I expect he would be as excited as anyone if they were done and would be shouting it from the rooftops if that was the case.

To say I'm disappointed in the outcome is an understatement. I feel we've all been unwilling passengers in a rudderless ship with a drunken captain and I don't think the problem has been any of the regular posters in this thread...

I do understand your point (and appreciate how frustrating it is) but, from the outset qusp as the organiser has said that they would all be sent in one go, due to his own time, that is his call and he hasn't kept it a secret. I have helped with some of the parts sorting and will help with the keratherm cutting where I can, if required, the rest has been his work when he has had spare time.

Hi Guys,

To be honest, I'm not sure why everyone got so hung up on the heatsinks. Both myself and exa065 built completed amplifiers directly off the BOM and have been enjoying them for the better part of 6 months while you guys have been waiting for something that I'm not really sure will provide any tangible benefit whatsoever.

I thought it was a great idea, and kinda cool to have a custom part, but I certainly wouldn't delay the build for it.

The pair I use on my computer don't even have heatsinks on them, and they've been fine.

I'd agree with Ed that you should just ship the parts, let people build and listen, and ship the heatsinks out later if they ever materialize. If you ship them as a group, it's only two extra shipments (one to NA and one to EU).

In the meantime, if people are all that worried, the BOM heatsinks are only a few dollars, and you could always find another use for them if the custom ones show up.

Cheers,
Owen

Yeah I have no problem with doing that, hochopeper and I were just talking about it again yesterday, thats why I have sought peoples opinion at each point of delay, because its not my decision, it matters naught to me, its more trouble having the stuff here. I have made the decision several times to just forget it and move on, but Hypertune's timing is immaculate! pops up every time to make another assurance and then again disappears. its actually quite baffling......

I havent heard from him since before last weekend of the 2-3rd and then again on the tuesday I think; when as you know, he was supposed to be running them and even asked me to confirm numbers again. in waiting for these sinks for you guys, I had no real assurances even till now about hochopeper and I's custom chassis. so I added myself to the list in case we were waiting another 6 months; while you guys had yours

i've also had the amps running briefly here with no sink with no worries, but this is the middle of winter and it would be another thing to case it up without a heatsink for use in summer, not a chance. so are we just going to get the bom sinks, or should we grab the alloy bar stock? bom heatsinks without getting another order is not a cheap proposition here in OZ, anything suitable is at least 2-3 times the price here and shipping from DK just for the heatsinks would be stupid, you guys over there are spoiled and all using our alloy!! lol

anyway happy to just push ahead. Chris and I have made arrangements for this weekend on Saturday and this time, even if Mark shows up again, i'm recommending we just push ahead; if he comes through and has pics before I send everything off, we'll reassess it then, if not, or if its just another date, then i'll just send them off and when the sinks are ready, we can get another package on the way, should only turn out a couple of dollars each
