Posting regarding the sumr transformer, since it seems more relevant here than in the main thread. I think ~$40 is a great deal for what you get from sumr. I would be ok with molex connectors, they have been used somewhere on almost all of my builds. Also I am indifferent to solid core vs. stranded.

I am also happy to go with the flow on solid/stranded.

I would like the quick connectors though if thats an option others are interested in? I'm considering an enclosure that will be a pretty tight fit and being able to disconnect at least the power leads to the board could be quite handy if I ever need to open the enclosure again.

I would prefer to wait for the optimal size parts to be procured, in no rush with this build.

cool yeah me too, even if it turns out the smaller size costs a little more and takes a little longer due to them being special order cores etc, i'm good. I hope it was kosher to post the prices directly from Richards email, bu i dont see why not. Yeah molex for the power is ok as long as they are good secure connectors i'm fine, usually the molex power connectors are tinned copper anyway so thats fine (IanAS is having a heart attack!) how about we get the optional fused trannie? maybe another one in the speaker outs for protection since the board doesnt have any? haha sorry Ian.

do remember its an estimate, an educated estimate, but all the same even Richard doesnt have all the facts for the last option yet; i hope to hear back tonight.

the molex will just make it much easier to install in a small enclosure, rather than soldering or screwing in cramped spaces and maybe scorching a cap or some insulation; i bloody HATE that and it simply has to be replaced if it happens

signal lines should be kept pure and direct though.

Ok so i guess i'll start an interest check for the trannies

yep, sorry should have made that clearer. and just to be clear about the format, the primary and secondary leads, will exit the circular can in each of their respective corners.

Those who have 115vac mains have the choice of wiring the primaries into the same pin locations the stock unit does and using the AC input on the PCB as normal, or connecting the primary leads directly to the IEC (or relay/SSR). Those with a more masculine 220-230VAC main voltage will have to wire direct to the IEC or relay etc, with no option to connect to the PCB in any really useful way, but no need to hack the PCB, which is a big reason i became interested.

I recommend connecting the primaries directly anyway, no matter where you live.

Ben, i'll shoot you a reply to your PM on Sunday or Monday, i'm out tomorrow through Sunday evening and i'm about to crash.

I do not want to hack the pcb for 230 V mains. This potted transformer is perfect solution. Thx

I have been sleeping just found this, put me down for whatever solution you come up with for transformer and heat sink to support 2 boards.

Thanks
Bill

Wirewiggler, you wanted heatsink too? No keratherm?

I've put you on the list for heatsink.

Its easier for people to add themselves to list and latest list in thread should be up to date and save organisers of each 'module' digging through pages of the thread. Saves you being missed in the count later!

thanks mate, I had already added him to the list for both of them on the first page and only updated the thread list here for the transformers as there wasnt at that point a transformer list on the first page, but since its firming up now ive added the sumR list there too.
