Hmm ... let me try and take a stab at this.
There are 6 places where you can put in a LED in the board, all depending on your intended application. The 1-2 red LED recommendation is just for the voltage reference section. You can place up to 4 LEDs for the current setting section.

That is really nice news! Just a short question, Salas BIB guide recommends 1-2 red led(s). Your kit consists 6. Does it mean, that better to use more red leds? Thanks
That are the green ones....

According to BIB guide, 3-4 green leds go into the current adjustment section, and 4 green leds are included in the minikit as well. Red one goes to the Vref section.

Sorry about that, I should have checked the mini kit content before replying before. >_<
Anyway, if there are multiple LEDs per color included in the kit, they would most likely be there for matching purposes.
Please see this link for an explanation for the matching of the LEDs.

It's from the DCB thread, but I think the concept is similar since it's still for a Salas designed shunt regulator.
In this case, your one supply for V+ may not need to match another V- side.
So it's more for more specific voltage setting. In this case the 4 LEDs spots with green LEDs will draw somewhat more current then the red ones.
The original proto's or first runs had 3 leds for current set.

IRF+ can do 5.0v, but easier with BJT from what I understand.
Salas may now have a different opinion.
Okay. I need +5V with 250mA. Is there a chart or summary to recommend transformer, heatsinking, etc. for a beginner? I will use the psu with my new Subbu dac. Thanks.
Freeman, best to work with the build guide and the calculator on the first post.
They are both very helpful.
found them. thanks. sorry to be so daft, but how do I add my order to the spreadsheet? it doesn't allow me to type there. regards.

There are lots of people editing the spreadsheet and mistakes happen for certain.
Please PM or Private email via diyaudio your want list and I will send invoice to you.
