I think I should make things easy for Davide. I will opt for option 2 as well.

Somewhat OT - but interesting!

Hi,

we are now reaching an interesting time point at which you would pay approximately the same price for an oz. of rhodium, platinum or gold (US$1850 to 1870). I would like to draw your attention to this comparative chart:

Kitco

You will notice a huge decline of the rhodium price. Furthermore, the doubling of the gold price since 2008 looks almost horizontal in this chart.

Just out of curiousity: Does anyone know the prices for rhodium or gold plated Furutech connectors in 2008?

I myself use shielded power cables from Lapp cables for mains, probably 3x2.5mm2, normal heavy duty industrial mains plugs, and direct solder without IEC. For internal wiring, I use silicon rubber multi-strand test wires, but you could also use teflon litze if you could find them. At least 2.5mm2, but preferrably 4-6mm2.

GB for other items

Is there going to be a group buy for the rest of these items?

NKK Switch JWM11RAA, SPST, 125V 10A,
Automotive 50A relay (voltage to be confirmed), M4 bolt & nut
Schurter 0031.1081 fuse holder 12.7 D-shape
Furutech IEC FI-10 IEC, Panel 20x29
speaker terminals
Neutrik NC3FD-LX-HE XLR sockets
15VA toroidal transformer 60mm dia. x 30mm height, M5 bolt
M4 for earthing.

smd?

Thanks

Wow - that is some seriously thick cable!
A quick search comes up with some 4 sqmm (AWG 11) cable like this. Will the PCB holes accommodate this 4 sqmm or would it be better to implement spade connectors?
Thanks,
Nic

@ Patrick: of course there are tons of audiophile plugs available, but when (probably for some good reason) a choice for a mains socket from Furutech has been made here I do think its just logical to go for a Furutech counterpart.(mains socket)

I will go for one anyway. (FI 11-R)

Concerning other group buys:

I have identified a suitable 15 VA helper transformer, mentioned in post #227 of the case thread. This toroid is produced by a renowned German manufacturer and distributed by a German electronics dealer which offers nice quantity discounts. But it has only 230V primaries.

An advantage might be that this trafo measures only 58mm in diameter instead of the maximum of 60mm allowed in Patrick's design.

I have also found a suitable 15 VA toroid with 2x115V primaries manufactured by Avel Lindberg (see post #249 in the case thread).

How shall we proceed? Should I contact the German manufacturer Sedlbauer and ask for a quote for 25 pieces of this toroid with 2x115V primaries? Or do "the Americans" prefer Avel Lindberg?

Hi,

I realized that JBdV might have left a post in this thread according to a message I received in my email account. However, the corresponding post isn't here. That's strange. The message I received said:

Ok Heinz, do we need mounting and rubber (big) rings for this transformer?
I think they are not included and this stuff may create a higher needed space.(I guess 3 mm more)

Yes, mounting material is not included. We would require this set of two rubber and one metal disks:

Patrick, does/would this arrangement still fit with your space requirements?
