Hi everyone,

I think I can safely say it all went well. Everyone seems to have got hold of their Fane drivers, other than one person who was not at home when the courier tried to deliver on THREE separate occasions (yes JoshK, it's you!).

The few feedbacks that has drizzled through seem to suggest that all those who could make use of the Fane 8Ms have been quite astonished by just how good they sounded.

I think that's me for now. If you need to contact me for anything please do so via email at rakeshpoorun@gmail.com since I do not regularly check my messages here.

All the best
Rakesh

Thanks everyone for making this happen

Hi everyone,

The last speakers should be collected shortly and so in spite of Romy and even a couple of acquaintances who told me I should not embark on this project, I am quite thrilled that this order for the Fane drivers actually happened.

I am fully aware that none of this would have been possible without the commitment and steadfastness of all those who committed themselves to buying the drivers and months on, would only provide me with words of encouragement when delay followed more delay, albeit that it was completely out of my control. I would therefore like to say a huge thank you to you all for making this happen.

Fane have not always been completely as helpful as I would have wished but I would be an idiot to badmouth a British company that makes a driver that's generally acknowledged to be unique and incredible value for money, and was prepared to make the whole project possible.

I would again like to say thanks to Romy. His vehement objection to this whole project made it much more fun and and its eventual successful conclusion so much more gratifying.

I have now finalised the design of the frames for my Rakeshorns system and have had the raw materials (just how raw you cannot imagine) delivered to Russ Collinson, who will build the frames...I need to find someone to machine the supporting rig for me so if you profess any expertise in precision engineering or the like and are based in the West London area, give me a shout, I could use some help.

Again to all of you a million thanks for making this happen. It was a pleasure to bring this Group Buy to a successful conclusion. You never know, I may be back...

Best regards
Rakesh

I have had two or three persons approach me for the spare Fane 8M drivers and so far only one person looks like completing a purchase. As I am leaving to go to France tomorrow, for the sake of clarity and simplicity, I will honour the current price until my return next week provided all payments are made by 23rd October. After that point, I will have to place the drivers in storage as I may be moving house in the UK as well in a few months' time, not to mention requiring the room for my soon to be delivered horns and frames. So if you are really after the recent production Fane 8Ms at the current price, this is in all likelihood your last opportunity.

Best regards
Rakesh

Hello everyone:

Fane Acoustics has agreed to produce a limited run of the now discontinued Fane 8M Studio drivers if a minimum order of 50 units can be filled. I am looking for firm expressions of interest for at least 25 pairs of drivers. If you are interested, please contact me on:

rakeshpoorun@gmail.com

I am quoting from an email from the company: "The speaker will be manufactured to the same specification as the original unit, the only difference will be that there will be no rubber magnet tire on the new batch as this part is now obsolete with our supplier."

I talked to the manager of Fane International and asked for further assurances in writing that these new drivers would use exactly the same parts as the vintage drivers. I am quoting from another email below:

"Hi Rakesh

As per (conversation) today. I can guarantee that all the parts in the new STUDIO 8M.8 Speaker will be the same as the original ones that were used to manufacture them 20 years ago. As I advised earlier today the only thing that we can not (supply) on these speakers is the rubber tyre trim on the magnet. However, this does not at all alter the performance of the speaker.

Magnets are the same .Coils, Suspensions are the same, Cone is the same and dust caps are the same. Hope this is enough information for you to place a new order with us. (Also), can you please let Daniel Barnes (know) if you want the ones you sent back repairing? Please bear in mind that to make 50 more of these we would need at least 4 weeks lead time. This is to enable me to buy all the right components.

Regards,
Susan Goodyear
Production Manager
"

You can pay by credit card or paypal, directly to Audio Components of Wokingham. John Bryant, owner and director of Audio Components UK Ltd (Tel 00 (44)118 989 0151), and a very talented and experienced loudspeaker designer and restorer, will take the payment from you.

Loudspeaker Design| Loudspeaker Drive Units| Loudspeaker Measurement, Restoration, Repair Services

By opting to pay by credit card or paypal, you will benefit from the usual protection given to such purchases.

You can check with Fane International that both Audio Components and myself have contacted them (ask for Daniel Barnes or Susan Goodyear, production manager).

I would prefer not to spend the rest of the summer waiting for the 50 units minimum order to be reached. So all orders made and paid for by 15th April will be at the special price of £225 for ONE PAIR of Fane 8M Studio, plus VAT plus shipping, in the UK or in the EU, or £225 plus shipping for the rest of the world (no VAT but you may have to pay duties at your end). This is an offer open until 15th April after which the price will be £265. As for shipping, this will be £20 in the uk, £30 for the European Union, £50 for the USA, inclusive of insurance. For the rest of the world, I am afraid you will have to contact me for shipping quotes. For you to be eligible, it is necessary not just to place an order but also to make payment in full by 15th April. Remember that if you opt to pay by paypal, there is an additional fee of 4 % and if by credit card, a fee of 3%. You can of course avoid these charges by using a debit card or by bank transfer if you prefer.

Why the special offer? Two reasons. Firstly, in order to encourage filling the minimum order, so the drivers can be ordered from Fane as soon as possible. I will also be looking to move to France during the summer holidays and with the stress that this will inevitably entail, I would be grateful if this was all concluded well before then.

From emails I have received, it is clear that even in cases where people have lingering doubts as to whether the new Fane 8M will be exactly the same (the criterion that I think will be satisfied), still it is thought that this is the closest one can get to have new Fane 8M Studio drivers performing very closely to the old production units.

This is a remarkable opportunity, even if your plan to build an upperbass horn is in the future. Given how rare these drivers have become, how unlikely that those sourced on the second hand market will actually even be in good condition after 20 years since they were manufactured in some cases and having lived a hard life in a studio environment. To add insult to injury, some of these old Fane 8Ms will have been reconed with compatible parts and not original Fane reconing kits of course. I recently contacted a very famous loudspeaker repair specialist in Wembley, and as it turned out, the reconing kits they use for servcing Fane 8M are not original, just compatible parts, presumably made in China I would say given the price. I think that many Fane 8M out there will have been reconed at some point and it may well be they were not with the Fane reconing kits. So much for the guarantee of performance from old vintage Fane 8Ms bought on ebay or elsewhere (as mine are)!

Best regards
Rakesh
Just seen this post on Google, we (Langley Sound & Light) have 20 of the Fane Studio 8M drivers that have been sitting on the shelf for several years that have never been used. They were apparently bought to fit into a set of speaker box's that never got completed. If anybody's still looking for some please feel free to get in contact. Thanks

Fane 8M Studio 16ohm, NOS, matched pair. Not one of those weird remakes.

First bid: 200 Euro per driver.

Located in Sweden.

Contact me for a matched pair of 16 ohm NOS new stock. I bought an extra pair but I like the old ones better because they are already broken in, hence I never really used them. I would give them 100h of breaking in time at least.

I cannot promise this pair has never been used, but they seem new to me. I have tested function and they work - as if new. I know what a used pair seem like. I purchased them from someone in the UK who was emptying out an old warehouse in march 2013. Fane is a UK company, so it might never have been sold to anyone but me, who never used them. The 16 ohm is the same as Romy The Cat uses.

I can put them on ebay and use Paypal if anyone is interested. Bank transfer is ofc also ok. Less safe for the buyer. But then again, ebay is less safe for the seller.

Hi Guys,
I know this is a long shot however I am looking for a pair of the Fane 8M Studio drivers.

If there is anyone out there that is willing to help, it would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards
Greg

Pixelplay,

You may want to add/clarify whether you are looking for 8 or 16 Ohm versions.

I love mine in front loaded horns.

Good luck!

Hi Tax,
Through the cover plate aprox half way between the pole and outer edge of the magnet. The magnet is intact however there must be some metal shavings in the gap. They only drilled through one side. I suppose they wanted to see what was in the void of the magnet donut. They were insured however they are almost impossible to find. Thinking of going to speakerbits in the morning.
