It is better yes for bom components but i have changed the 3 filtering caps for filament to 25v instead of 16v and added a larger heatsink on the regulator. The 12v are paralleled for more current.

You can always use a separate transfo if you're worried.

Default Transformer Dilemma

I have not been making any progress because the local supplier has bee slow in giving me a price to make the transformer. He has advised me I require the following transformer to ensure I get the best performance,

Will design on a 120VA Core at 0.5Telsa, with an Electrostatic Screen and Flux Band 1 x 150v @ 0.1A & 9V @ 2A

The cost is $166.00 plus freight!!! & he wont be able to make it for 3 or so weeks!!

Do I really need this fancy transformer? Will it make a difference, say to the type ANTEK sell?

I'm on the same page here... You're wasting your time and maybe money here... Get the Antek transfo and use the SSHV 1 that Oliver sells or the SSHV2 or any other nice HV shunt.

I'm currently using the SSHV2

The Antek transfo works perfectly and does not vibrate or hum. You really should consider it

Ciao!

I have ended up ordering the local transformer because I was advised by Antek that they "Didn't make or modify transformers"

I have been getting up the courage to order some Texas TX2575 resistors, I was wondering what tolerance should I order?

Hi David,

i am using the 0,1% tol. TX-2575. Just send an email to Arbie Lopez with regards from me

Cheers,
Oliver

What value are you using at the cost of these thing's I'm not keen on buying a whole bunch that won't get used.

I ended up using 29R value for the R I/V. Sounds better to me than the 39R I had before. Better dynamics and resolution, IMO. The value can vary depending on the DAC you are using however. I am using the Buffalo II DAC.

It takes a brave (or lazy) man to ask this question What do the I/V resistors actually do

Well I have ordered 26 & 32 ohms pot luck really

don't tell me no one knows the answer

And why does the quality matter?

I finally got the transformer, ended up going the whole hog, has screened windings & a flux band, it is also built on a larger core to keep the TESLA value down, if only I knew why

Peter (the maker)said I wont be making another one that cheaply again Mind you $180.00 didn't seem cheap to me.
