Default The impending switch-over disaster

Well, it's now in the front of the local papers -- the switch-over is not going to be the painless process that young Mr. Powell had envisioned in 2005 (these are the guys who are going to run our health-care). There is a shortage of converters and putting up a 12 element yagi in the middle of February isn't anyone's idea of a good time.

The channels are changing, broadcasters are changing their antenna transmission patterns, and if this isn't bad enough if you are in a fringe area "over-the-ether" is just going to be impossible to pull in.

Even more interesting -- the broadcast video stream has the possibility of encryption so that recording of a digital signal may be obviated by the content owner. This was discussed in the most recent issue of EDN -- bet you didn't know that. Linked here:

I don't know how painful it will be for others, but I just installed two of these converter boxes and now get better reception and more channels using my same old antenna.
