Default Video 2000 format, Philips VR2020, etc.

Hi, Is there anyone out there still interested in the Video 2000 format video recorders? I am looking for English service manuals for the Philips VR2020/2022/2023 and also any 'dead' or unwanted machines or spares. Also if there is anyone with any technical knowledge I could bombard with questions I would be extremely grateful to hear from you! I am very keen to get a machine tuned to the best this format can give.

Thanks,

Unless someone can send you a service manual, your only option would be to purchase one from here for 15.00 dollars.

Are tapes still available for these machines?

Hi Mickey p,

Thanks for the info. I have ordered the manual. I have seen V2000 tapes for sale on ebay but most of these are secondhand and it's pot luck as to the quality. I find BASF tapes have survived better thah Philips. Just to throw one of my technical queries to the forum....

I have a Philips VR2023 which I bought recently. When first powered up it sort of played ok but upon close examination inside I found that the tape carriage mechanism had been damaged in the post. I managed to repair this and put the unit back together. Now the problem I have is that when I press play, the tape laces up and plays but after about 4 seconds, it unthreads again and the recorder switches itself off. The same thing happens if I try to fast forward or rewind the tape. Also, during the period of 'activity' the tape counter remains on '0000'. Has anyone got any clues? I don't think there's anything seriously wrong with the machine, perhaps I disturbed somthing during the repair? All help gratefully received!

Best regards,

I don't actually know but it may be that the unit senses if the tape is moving using the tape counter. If its not moving it shuts down to prevent burning out motors etc. In this case if the drive to the tae counter has failed the unit would have these symptoms. Could just need a new belt to the counter or the rubber drive wheel replaced, depending on how the tape counter is driven.

Are you still accepting V2020 machines?
Will be having a clear out soon - I have a V2020 and some tapes I think.
