Building OB (right now) need help with side lengths

Hi people,

I am currently building an OB setup right now. Before I screw the wings on to the main baffle I had a question. I have one wing shorter than the other . But I can't remember if the short wings of the stereo pair should be on the inside or if the short sides should be on the outsides or what. In other words should it be short wing - center baffle - long wing for both or what? Can anybody help me here quickly? (I hope it makes sense how I have explained it)

I have normally used the short wings on the inside but experiment.

From a theory POV the wings should be rearward. Look at the natural shape of a sound wave in motion thru a medium. Its spherical and the wavefront is curved. Titl the wings forward and you concentrate the outside of the waves energy. There is no horn action here as the length of expansion is short and not controlled as the pressure is open at the top of the baffle.
I have been running some tests on OB and wave forms using a simple pre folded piece of heavy cardboard from Hobby Lobby and my last set of RS1354A drivers. From what i see in my sims and the actual results the baffle should be either flat or curved rearward at an angle that supports the wavelength and shape.

The polar response tends to be smoother over the short side of an open baffle. So it would be best like Corloc already suggested: short wings on the inside.

Martin King's website and get his s/w and he is most generous with his time.

or

go to J.K.'s website from music and design he has a software as well.

Both gents are very knowledgeable on this subject esp. on OB design and s/w simulations on OB speakers. Besides the s/w they charge are very cheap no more than US$25.00 per pack. Talk to them first before buying.
