Would I be stupid to build an open baffle using the following parts:
From 70 to 6000 Hz

and a tweeter mounted over the mid-range ala Hammer Dynamics.
I always liked the sound of voice and guitar coming out through a guitar speaker. These things have pretty damn high efficiency. I seen one fom Eminence with a rating of 107 dB.
I will probably need to eq the bass anyways, so that should not be hard to bring it back up to match the level of the mid-range.

i have a similar setup up and running after reading some rave reviews of the Bastanis DIY products.
It is basically a clone with different speakers.
I use two subs with a Delta 12LF and open baffels with a Tone Tubby 12 inch crossed over with 1.5uF to a B&C DE25 tweeter. Works very very nice. So give it a try with the Eminence speaker. It is pretty difficult to find a good tweeter and they are expensive.

you might want to consider the Hawthorne Silver Iris 15"

Custom drivers by Eminence, optimized for open baffle operation without the need for any EQ, coax mounted compression tweeter, quite decent outboard passive XO that allows for tweakage to taste.
The required baffle is smaller than you might think.
I've heard these, and for the bucks they're hard to beat- and if you're convinced that a single 15"driver per channel isn't enough, there is also a dedicated "augie" augmentation driver.
They won't however have any of that "guitar speaker sound"

They really do sound quite good - if you can dedicate the space for them to breathe - huge sound stage and very efficient ( 3watt SET will fill a large room)
I recently had occasion to audition a pair of 3way OBs wherein the "audiophile grade" crossover parts (copper foil air core inductors on woofers, and Mundorf Supreme caps on Fountek ribbons) probably cost at least 50% of the total price of the SI15's
