You could also try thermofleece - it's a similar material but heavily compacted. If you could get a small amount and don't mind spending the time to tease it out, it may work. The producer is in Cumbria, somewhere near Penrith. If you can track them down, they may be able to supply raw material. The stuff is used for acoustic isolation and began life as a way to use locally sourced wool, so they may be sympathetic to sending you a batch of suitable wool.

Don't forget moths eat wool! Treat it with chemicals or fit screens over ports to keep them out.
