Hi everyone. Ill be receiving 2 pairs of FE127e's on december 9, and i'd like to get a head start on the cabinets.

i was thinking about one of the following:

or the simpler:

would i notice much of a difference?

im okay with the extra work, but aslong as it sounds better in any way, ill do it.

ANOTHER QUESTION:

Which cabinet (for the FE127e) will give me the best mid's and high's?

thanks.

Well, the Fostex design is for an FE108Esigma, which is not an FE127E.

As a quick comparo:

Fe108: Qt 0.3 / Vas 5.7 l / Fs 77Hz / Sd .005m2
Fe127: Qt 0.43 / Vas 9.9 l / Fs 70hz / Sd .0067m2

So, in addition to the extra woodwork, it will probably sound worse than the MLTL design.

Don't build a cabinet that isn't designed for the driver.

Mids and highs are largely determined by the driver itself (and of course where you place it w.r.t. the listener, room, etc). However, how the bass is loaded makes a big difference on tonal balance, which makes a big difference on how mids and highs are heard. Inadequate or lumpy bass will make mids and highs sound harsh and overly treblyl. Good, balanced bass will make the mids and highs sound correct.

If I were you I would build one of the many cabinets designed specifically for the 127e:

The monopole MLTL would be an easy build with small footprint:
