FE127E enclosures for travel

Hi there,

I've just bought a pair of FE127's to go with my AMP3 kit and playstation. I'm eventually going to build a set of Fonkens for them.

However in the immediate future I want to build a pair of quick, easy and small sealed enclosures for them. Reason being I'm about to head over to New Zealand for a two week campervan holiday and would like some tunes along the way. The van hasn't got a cd player or anything other than a bog standard radio.

So my plan was to package up my AMP3 into a mini box (it's so tiny!), run it off the cigarette lighter and to temporarily house the FE127's in some small enclosures. Combined with my ipod my wife and I can then listen to music we actually enjoy!

Thinking maybe short PVC tubes or maybe plastic flower pots or something?

So who's got some ideas? What volume would work? I'm not looking for the worlds best sound, just better than what a dinky campervan radio can supply

go for a 2 foot long pvd pipe filled with cotton balls. works for me. or a coffee can.

The Fonkens are pretty darn small, IMHO.

For easy, you can't beat PVC transmission lines...but small, they're not.

I agree the Fonkens are really small! But i'm looking for something quick and easy, ie. I can make it in an afternoon.

Some good ideas there. Do you think the coffee can would have enough volume? I'm guessing i would probably want to stuff it with cottonballs too?

If you have the time, check some of the local thrift stores in your area for an old getto player like mine. The speakers are detachable, and the perfect size for an FE127. It should be easy to swap out the old full range drivers for the Fostex, and when your trip is over, take the 127's out and toss the plastic cabs.
FYI the Sony in the pic is a CFS-710 cassette only, $5 at a garage sale.

Just tape the drivers together face to face and bring them with you like that, along with some bolts and washers. Just pick up some cardboard and tape in OZ. Try them OB first and if you really need more bass construct a cab with cardboard and tape during the trip. Easier to transport, fun to build, and will sound better than a tiny sealed cab.

Option: get one of those handy-dandy fm transmitters for your iPod and listen through your van's radio. There are many to choose from and don't cost much, I've seen them priced as low as $20CAD (I imagine you 'get what you pay for'). Not as much fun as Franken-fi but easy and hassle free ( I imagine the possibility of an accident in your fe127's future due to being in a mobile environment)
