GM states:
"Tangband W3-871S 3" full range - Designed by GM L = (Line length) 70" Zdriver = Driver 15.2" down from sealed end of cabinet Sm = 22.5"^2 Due to the high Fs and driver position, floor loading recommended" I am estimating following inside dimensions: height:35" width: 4" length: 5.5" speaker: 15.2" from open top what I don't understand is, "floor loading"... thanks, gychang |

does the "floor loading" mean, the open end, usually located on the top in the BIB cabinet is actually on the bottm?. Is there a detail drawing on how the bottom should be "exposed"? gychang |

I've build a BIB for my w3 871s. Here is my webpage . Honestly, haven't heard them yet. I left to go to college so i never finished painting them and gluing the suprabaffle. They look good atleast...
Here is a picture of the cabs unpainted. My plans are on my website also. Thanks, Josh

I enjoyed the pictures, thanks, I learned what is meant to be "floor mounted". I predict the sound will be good. Let us know how it sounds. thanks, gychang |

Since I'm at school, I won't be home before the semester ends except for Thanksgiving, so perhaps late December i can finish them up.

I have built with Cyburg Needles with the same speaker, and thinking about building BIB per GM's recommendation on his site.
I am not sure if anyone has heard of this combo. Wonder if the base wil be better in BIB... gychang |

Now let me take a guess -you're thinking about building a BIB for the Tang Band 871, right?
Yup, invert them. Cut away the rear panel at an angle to allow it to vent properly, as it'd be a trifle difficult for it to vent if its physically sitting on the floor. A nice block of wood to the rear like a post will prevent them from falling over. Best to let them angle backward slightly though as the driver position is necessarily very low as-is. However -with these cabinets, you could actually lift the driver to a better position 29.125in from the sealed end, which will improve the response -this is actually closer to being the 'ideal' position for the driver, but it can't normally be done with upward firing BIBs as it'd put the driver practically on the floor. And inverting taller BIBs would put it about 3 1/2ft over your head. But it can be done for short, inverted BIBs like this. Gives less ripple. An alternative is not to fold them at all. Build a box 70in tall, upward-venting, with a sloping internal baffle. Mass load the half of the cabinet you don't use with sand or something similar. Again, use a driver position 29.125in from the sealed end as we can still use that. Job's a good 'un. |
