To all the Aussies out there. I don't know how many have heard of a company called Global Ventures Australia. I have no connection with them but saw them while surfing for timber and contacted them. They sent me a box of small samples at a cost or $10 postage to them which impressed me. They have two products : upright longitudinal glued veneer which looks like a sheet of ply but on edge. The sample was void free and was birch. Oregon is also available. thicknesses from 25 to 100mm and sheets up to 630mm wide and 5 metres long. This product can be veneered. They also sent a product called eco-core multiply in white birch. The sample appears to be void free but is about 16cm by 13 cm. Available in same size sheets as above. No idea of the cost.
They also have faced blockboard but this appeared to have many voids and was not in the same class. The products appear to come from Germany so they may be familiar to our European members. I pass this on for what it is worth. jamikl |

Forgot to say that the birch ply appears to be about 23 layers and about 30mm thick.

Hi Jamikl,
Thanks for the tip! I notice they're in NSW though. When I was looking for ply, I found a few places in NSW that had lots of great stuff, but the cost of getting it down to Melbourne was prohibitive. Strangely I couldn't anything suitable locally here in Melbourne. Cheers, Ralph |

I noticed the same thing Ralphs99. Even boating magazines have suppliers for Queensland, NSW and SA but nothing for VIC. Have we lost the DIY ethic here?
