Default fe168sigma question

I have 2 of the older 168sigma not the new 168e sigma
Well this driver has a fancy ribbed ruber boot over the magnet
does this serve any function other than look good. I would like to know before I remove it to add a bucking magnet. Any one have any experience doing this to this driver if so were you pleased
with adding a bucking magnet or sorry you went to the bother.

Damps the mechanical resonance in the magnet and basket I imagine. I'd probably keep it on if I wasn't modifying the driver.

Default old style...

so the older drivers with whizzers had more shout, etc. this rubber was to keep metalic reflections from coming back through the cone and adding to the high f distortion.

I personally like the old style drivers alot. and the new ones (HP) as well. different compromises in each one. both with a fun sound.

some old hobbyists round here think the new drivers don't sound like music...

I beg to differ on the 168EZ new. after 1000 hours or more it is a masterpeice. then the 108esII....

and just the normal 108EZ...

I would keep the rubber on. or maybe chop a hole in the back of it to fit the bucking magnet to get better bucking magnet clearance.
