Thanks for all the tips and information. I have a lot of ideas to work with now.

And thanks for the reassurance that break in will make a difference. 200 hours!? They have been used for less than 50 hours to date.

Planet10's cone treatment looks very interesting. I'm definitely going to try it on a second pair of drivers I'll be ordering soon.

Although my first post was a little negative and the honkiness remains at this point, I'm still amazed by what these modestly priced drivers sound like! This project has really sparked my interest in full range drivers.

For many years, when I have a such problem of cône coloration I use some latex that I cover the cône.

when i built my fostex single driver speaks,,, i let them play with the radio on a rock station in another room for 1 week, then slowly they began to take shape.. i couldnt believe how they improved a little every day. but they did.

Any relation to the Fonken Wagnell's often referred to in Rowan and Martin's Laugh In? (Man am I dating myself . . .)
