To really open up the midrange you should really try Planet10 phase plugs for the front drivers, as well as cone treatment and basket frame damping.

Also play a bit with placement - it's been quite a while since I've had a pair of these running in my system, but when I did they were well away (18-24") from side/back walls, and placed diagonally accros a single corner.

Lastly, try running a single strand of CAT5 conductor per polarity.

Yep, I find these guys a little bright too. I tried the phase plugs and they helped, but they are still a little bright.

Try moving them around to minimize refelctions off the back wall.

If you go with the filter and you use a tube amp, you may as well also add in a zobel.
