CSS FR125 open baffle test

I was pretty amazed at how much bass this little driver produces in an open baffle (and so was my son as you can hear early on in the film :) )

2mb file.

And no..there was no subwoofer somewhere in the room :D

Source..computer soundcard playing an mp3.
Amplifier Ladyday 8 Watt SE amp..

Yup. Having heard these drivers in a number of configurations ala Planet 10 / Chrisb, the ammount and quality of the bass from these things must be heard. Don

Whoa, having never heard

a) Decent full range drivers (I've only played with cheapy ones)

b) SET amps

I have mental "images" of full range drivers in open baffles producing no bass at all, and badly rolled of treble, and I have a similar mental "image" of SE amps hardly able to go loud enough and producing no bass. That video proved everything wrong! I'm amazed!

bigwill

There are many misconceptions about SET amps...some of the best bass I've ever heard came from a SET amp...just don't drive your maggies with a SET. :D

I was "baffled" not just by the bass from the little driver, but also the bass from an open baffle:confused: it's just insane the amount of bass from such a driver:cannotbe:

I my little room they are fine. But i doubt they will fill my main living room satisfactorily...I'll have to try that soon...

The suspension must've been begging for mercy at the end of it though...

Nah...all in a days work...however....if I cranked up the volume..it would bottom out though...

Those silly FR125S' are tough as nails when it comes to that. I can't tell you how often I've bottomed them testing them as HT speakers

My wife literally "ducks" when it happens from the racket, expecting them to explode right outta the cabs http://members.dowco.net/canadageek/smilies/lol.gif

FR125 in OB seems to be nice. I've been thinking of a semi dipole la Troels Acapella SE using CSS drivers. One FR125 running fullrange on a considerably small baffle with a WR125 under it in a BR with a lowpass filter. Any idea why this would not work?

Hi,

that's sounds really good, what's the sensitivity of those speakers?

Thanks
Raja
