Skin, not sure what to put on it, maybe for this prototype, I'll put on some PE vinyl adhesive (hope i don't start any fires here)

MDF - i've tossed around the layers, as long as you don't bend it forcefully, it will not break;even stronger when they're all glued together

Maybe 1/4-20 brass threaded rod buried and epoxied in the wood protruding out through the plastic side panel and terminated with a polished brass flatwasher and brass acorn nut.. This will require perfect perpendicular alignment of the studs. Alternately one could punch holes for full cabinet width rods through all the laminated panels during manufacture to put a true 'squeeze' on the speaker That would be superior and the rods would automatically become truly perpendicular to the plastic sides.

A gasket of thin felt, color of your choice would look nice between the sides and the wood and would solve seal/vibration noises and eliminate possible long term abrasion scuffing of the inside of the sideswalls.

Maybe these are a little better.

This is the pic i was talking about. With external cabinet dimensions, and a side on view, like in this pic but straighter, and i can make plans for this.
i dont have any flash tools, but i do have access to a router.
I would probably cut each layer with a jigsaw and hand finish.
More work, but hey, who cares.
I used to make accoustic guitars so am used to tight tollerences working with wood.
