Terry Cain's BIB -why does it work and does anyone have those Fostex Craft Handbooks?

And for those who just can't wait any longer....

Enjoy! (please let me know if you can or cannot see the fr graphs thank you... some say they cannot see them... hmmmm).

I also wanted to again post these pics i got over the weekend... thanks uvellani and peterbrorsson for sending your BIB pics!

RE: GRAPHS & CODE

Hi

on Mac OS X 10.3.9 / Safari and Firefox it's all fine.

But a quick look at the source code reveals a quite strange image reference for the graphs (not fot the driver pics). - I'm not familiar at all with Windows ASP, but with html in general, and I think that causes the problem for some maybe older PCs or older systems.

It reads:
<!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shape
id="_x0000_s1028" type="#_x0000_t75" style='width:408pt;height:146.25pt'>
<v:imagedata src="BIB-GM_files/image003.emz" o:title=""/>
</v:shape><![endif]--><![if !vml]><img border=0 width=544 height=195
src="BIB-GM_files/image004.gif" v:shapes="_x0000_s1028"><![endif]>

instead of a simple html image tag like this:
<img" src="BIB-GM_files/image004.gif" border="0" width="544" height="195>

and here is the resulting image, which I think is not the problem:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

As far as I have looked at the code, that's for ALL the graphs in the BIB section.
Jeff, maybe your HTML editor got something mixed up, but that should be an easy fix.

I hope that helps making that great site even better

btw. Jeff did you receive my email with the 'how to pics'?

regards, LC

Godzilla,

I commend your effort in creating those pages for builders. Collecting/organizing info from email exchanges is dedication indeed.

BTW, the RTF64 pic you have the page is the Bicone (whizzered) version. But if the sim is virtually the same for both (Bicone and Non-bicone) you can leave it at that.

Interesting tidbit on two sims for the RTF64. Bill Wood's K-slot Vented Pipe (on Akabak) and GM's BiB (MathCad?) both have a dip ~500Hz... The AkAbak graph below is of course for a diff. design, and the software is said to exhibit it's own artifacts.
As stated here before, the BiB sim does not take into account particular room loading effects etc.

Hi
Ran a test cd with fixed frequenses sitting at 4m distance
20Hz: not present but no noices from the driver!

32Hz: audible

40Hz: quite strong output from the mouth

64Hz: hit probably resonance freq really good output

120,280,420,640Hz. In all these freq, there's quite high output from the mouth.It is quite an even level between them, so should be able to minimize output with a little patience.
Jump to 800Hz and completely gone from the mouth to be back a little bit at 1.2kHz. Over that, it is not so bad.

My Monacor SPH60X are now called SPH60WF (whizzer free)
Checked with the above cd and could hear up to 15kHz (then there's a jump to 20kHz on test cd) with whizzer. I removed one whizzer and surprise, could not hear any difference! So both of them are liberated now and 0.5g lighter. (Couldn't resist weighing them, I have two digits scales at work);)

The instruments I've used are my ears only, I should get me some basic instruments in the future but has managed so far with the cheapest equipment on earth.
To be continued....

Interesting. I might do a little surgery on my Monacors, which I have to say I think are brilliant value. Great little drivers.

Now, who was that lucky person who's running the FE168ESigma in the Supravox 215 TQWT built by a certain Mr Terry Cain? I was modelling the enclosure for the current thread re what to do with a pair of 215RTFs, and I remembered you were doing that. So, for your interest (& anyone elses), this is what MathCad says you should be getting out of it. 0.3lbs ft^3 of stuffing around the driver assumed BTW. Looks pretty good to me. Should be nice and musical.

Best
Scott

Greets!

Looks like this one got lost in the heap, so to speak........

L = 64.58"
Sm = 220"^2
driver down 14" from the top (pointed end)

With a ~53 Hz cut-off , wider BW nulls due to the fast taper and too high a driver position without a third fold, you may not be happy with the results. Only one way to know for sure though.

GM

thanks for that gm! just checked back on the thread and had a lot to read.

in any case, the dims don't look very good... perhaps it would work better without the fold? would it just be a tall, right triangle, standing on it's vertex (with sides to support of course)?

i may just throw the beymas in an open baffle and try the BIB with the fe108ez, looks like a small, easy build.

regards from wine country!

Interesting. Can I show my ignorance here and ask, what is a K Slot design? I remember hearing of it, and seeing a spreadsheet Greg made, but know nothing else.

Hi Scott,

It's a Karlson slot/waveguide vented enclosure. I posted linked plans on my RTF64 thread (option 2). The slot is inverted in this particluar design. The Karlson is primarily used for front horn loading dynamic drivers or coaxs/triaxx (in BR or sealed boxes?), but in this case it was utilzed as a vent.

GM's spreadsheet is in the Single Driver Website.

BTW, I think the person who owns the Supra TQWT (TC made?) now has 206-ESR's in 'em.

Don't. The 206ES-R is a painful subject for me. :bawling:

Fred, thanks for the explanation (and link to drool-inducing cabs). Now, my next quetion is what in the name of perpendicular penguins is a Karlson slot / waveguide design? Can you point me toward any literature that you would recommend explaining the basic theory and principles behind using it for both applications? Sorry to appear so ignorant (& for going off-topic a bit).

Jeff -Jordan BIB cabinets are on their way to you very shortly

I'll bite the bullet and be the guinea pig for the B200 version. With a 350"Sm and 75"H we're talking about some big panels. Is there a recommended bracing scheme yet, or would any bracing have to be on the exterior and end up looking like heat sink fins?

Ha!! Cool, It was going to take me a couple of months to get enough cash to try.

I was thinking of useing 1 1/4" dowels at intervals for bracing. Diflex panels behide driver with driver bracing. Stuffing I was going to use accustastuff and or the sill plate insolation.

I haven't drawn hte plans in cad yet, but I hopeing to put the driver on the long side rather thean the narrow.

I'm not so sure now that the dimensions are sinking in. At 15" wide it would need to be over 27" deep. That's 2 sheets of plywood + for each enclosure. It's interesting, but not that interesting. I think I can get close to the same extension in a much more room friendly size.
