The piece at the bottom is some left over black Corian (though they are painted black, for polish the up was not funny)

Here is my lovely sounding trio:
The ripole sub has two Peerless SLS 12" (filtering with a miniDSP), built after specs provided by a certain Jazzman.
The Frugels handle themselves really good when it comes to bass (impressively so) but with the sub you get a nicer bottom end in my opinion. Will build the Frugel XL version someday.
Driving them all with a Dared DV-6C. Nice hybrid 5.1 tube amp.

I've just recently finished this build so I'm not sure about what I write here but this is what I come to understand at least. Haven't tried it with movies that much etc. This is maybe off topic and I guess there's another thread here on the forum for this? Anyway..
Ripoles don't have a lot of chest pounding output for movies but I think it's enough for music. They are apparently not efficient in their lowest frequencies and they bottom out kind of easy (as free air moving speakers do). A positive thing is that they don't have the same boominess other subs can have in a room.
Jazz and similar music with very destinct instruments works great. I think it complements the Frugels really good as they both work nicely for that kind of music. Maybe don't need it for the XL's. Don't know.
It has a nasty resonace in the 200 Hz area which is apparently common in these kind of builds. This makes it sound really bad unfiltered. I use a 24- or 48-dB lowpass around 80-100 Hz (don't remember the exactly values). I will measure it later on and try notch filtering it to see if its any good up in the mid bass.
They were not that hard to build and not too expensive. Interesting project.

Yes that is the easiest solution. I cross it way below 200 Hz so it's fine for me. I just want to experiment and see what it's capable of in higher frequencies. Guess I can't go too high as these are sub/bass drivers but maybe around 300-500 then you probably get too much distortion though specs show good results up to around a 1000 Hz. I don't think I should use only one when going up in the mid bass. Getting in to stereo territory. One underneath each speaker perhaps. And what kind of speaker should complement these with.. Maybe something like the Visaton Petit/Grand Orgue (Single or stacked ripoles with built in line array fullrange speakers).
Don't think I'm going to build another one anytime soon though as I have plenty of other interesting projects I rather spend time on. Maybe later.
