Hey Vix,
Why don't you post a question (OK, the same question) to Nelson here:
DIY progress report

He doesn't always read threads outside of his "home"

Maybe give him a link to this thread.

yes I know this is not a car speaker per say ,but has anyone tried, or even been inclined to remove the magnetic shielding? to lower the mounting depth
.
Ahem, Mr. Wiggins ? Can we have a 4ohm, non-shielded version please ? To go along with the 4ohm Extremis.

You have mail. Does your trip to BC include a ride on the ferry (sorry, usually it is a lot more boring than the ride some got yesterday)

I saw a prototype of a slightly larger driver that Dan is working on specifically for a car. With the FR125 i'd be a bit concerned with grunge getting into the coil & not getting out.

Nothin' like slow motion destruction to liven things up a bit.

so Im going to order a pair I think

how much sealed volume do these need?

I keep seeing ported enclosures?

im going to run them em 3 way with a small ambient tweeter at 8K ands up

my plan

midbass
50hz to 200hz

midrange
200-no crossover

tweet

8-10k up

sound good

or should I just leave the tweeter out since it is full range

just wonder if Ill get enough off axis repsonse in a vehicle in a small volume enclosure

and whats the rms power for the 8 ohm version?

I admire you not wanting a crossover for the mid-range but I'm pretty sure you're going to need at least a cap as a high-pass. Also, if you're going to use a tweeter just get the WR125S rather than the FR125S. Could make for a respectable two-way with the FR125S and a suitable mid-woof however (can you say Extremis?). I did something similar here and Dan W. has a huge super-duper tower design. My mid's in a 15L box and IIRC, Dan put his in a 6 liter.
Another possibility is putting the FR125 into a sealed 15 liter box and using an active bass unit crossed ~80Hz. I think that would kick!

Hold on now, don't go getting any ideas! What was the saying about cars... We lose money on every one but make it up in volume!

This post covers sealed boxes:

anything from 2.5 litres up.... i'd do 4 litres minimum, anything above 10 litres is about the same, i guess 20 litres plus could be considered infinite baffle.
