Default PHY-HP KM30SAG and Tonian labs

Have any of you used this DIY box and driver.

What do you know of the Tonian company? The box claims to be a semi-open baffle. Do you know what they mean by that.? Would this driver work in an TL design?

I also have not been able to find a price for this box and design. I know the driver sells for about $1370.00 each. I'm a little hesitant to spend the $ without hearing the products.

How do ya'll deal with taking a risk in $ if you haven't heard the product?

Really new, curious, and eager.

kloss who posts on the high eff. board of the AA used them for a time (the 8 inch version).. Part of his problem though was that he used them in a mass filled quasi-T-line, another problem was that there is no baffle step compensation (and the baffle was narrow). The semi open baffle approach is that used by Ocellia. Several reviews of their stuff can be found here:

The France 2003 review will show you the back of the "box".

Note that even these will suffer baffle step loss to a degree.

The 12 inch version (that you have linked to) will have less "bs" loss as will an Ocellia type box with a broader baffle like that found here:

Frankly I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about the drivers except cost, on-axis extension beyond 9kHz (without the piezo's), and off-axis response (without the piezo's). And I've heard a lot that is good.

You should use an amp with a low dampening factor with these drivers (i.e. a good tube amp).
perspective is everything
