sketch up quick model of what looks like could be pretty decent, instead of another 8" in the front should be more like 3 to 4" full range for the front..

Or go to 12" fullrange plus a 4" in the front or go with 5 12s

Well, are you sure you want that much voice blasting into the corner ?

I find the 901 to add a strange extra echo.

But it is your project. I've tried a few things even when people say don't.

I had 2 different 12" full range drivers. Knowing what i know now, you could do an upright vertical line array due to narrowing response that won't knock highs down. That'd be good slam and mucho output (for full range drivers anyway).

Your room and speaker's dispersion (to me) is the largest factor of the sound you hear (over 50%).

Keep us updated on results.

I have had the real 901 speakers and loved the design and the stands they sit on and the fact they use 4" full range drivers ...BUT the drivers were cheap series 1 nothing compared to what we have available today and the internal wiring was cheap and the cabinet was cheap baffles were 3/4" instead of 1" to 2" like they should be, I have built many 901 type clones but never tried an upgrade so will see. Even Stereophile in their review liked many things about it , but they did not like the rear 4 driver layout which I am going to try to just use 2 , for cost reasons I will try the GRS Bofu instead of the 12" Fane , which just looks fantastic both in looks and specs but much more money so will try this scaled down a bit , could go with the Goldwood 8" Full range but I really prefer a paper cone unit

what volume cabinet? - that GRS has been reported to have qts ~0.9 some time ago, then around 0.6 (nice) in a later review

I hope the surrounds last longer than the Pioneer BOFU

a friend heard my 901's and thought there was an "echo" effect too - being used to Karlson, I don't knotice :D

here's how my 901-1 measured outdoors - as you can see, when the 8 driver array
is facing the microphone (or listener), there's an elevated region, and similar
appeared when the rear 8 drivers were close to the house wall

Your project should be lots of fun.

hi GM - I can't post just one trace but do have this graph of two traces which is pretty clear with my 901-1 outdoors, on a barrel, with the mic pointed at the central axis of the front driver.

I have a friend, who played in an Appalachian string band, and that band used the PA version of the Bose so would assume the red trace is something like that type would produce sans EQ

I wouldn't want a thicker cabinet for my 901 - they are pretty heavy as is.

here's the original Hawthorne Silver Iris custom Eminence 15cx in the same area of my yard

my Karlson type could put much more power with much less excursion - a single
15 open baffle isn't much

and fake "Druid" with old spec B102 - just the 10" twin cone - no tweeter

Thanks! I find it interesting that the single driver's response is very close to Lansing's original Iconic two way studio monitor that would set the 'tone' for decades to come: ICONIC

RCA measurement circa 1936 IIRC:
