Default Best Full-Range 4" with Passive Radiators?

Hi!

I would like to create a good quality audio system. I have though of using a high quality full range speaker (with maybe two passive radiators to increase the bass). My restrictions are the dimensions, which have to be small (speaker of around 4").

So what is the best full range speaker you have ever used or heard?

Btw I dont have too much space for a big enclosure, so the maximum volume would be around 2-3 liters.

Thanks

In my experience with the 15''PR from Klipsch Forte2 the PR needs alot of acoustics force(air) to be moved and SMT it dont works above 80Hz, a 4'' dont have capacity to move much air inside the enclosure to move a PR.

I suggest you use 1 BR duct(not 2).

A PR is a vent substitute (with an extra mechanical resonance) for boxes where the vent is too large to be practical. I can only envision this as a situation that compromises the FRs performance.

Of the ones i have heard, the Mark Audio Alpair 7.3 in Frugel-Horn Mk3, ranks highest for 4” drivers.

On the contrary, passive radiator is the best solution for 2-3 liters box volume.

This could be interesting? Would something with large excursion be beneficial? My Jordan Eikonas spring to mind

These Audience "The One" sounded amazing when I heard them at an Atlanta audio show in 2011. Placed close to the wall they made very convincing playback of acoustic jazz bass. Upper frequencies clean and controlled.

1 FR + 1 PR

No 4” i know would not be compromised in such a small enclosure. No point.

The One uses a 3” driver — at least the original couple iterations by Dan Wiggins. Be interesting to compare it to Frugel-Horn Lite with Alpair 5.2.

PS: Hi Richido, good to see you, haven’t seen you about recenty

I know two 4" fullranges which will not be compromised in such a small enclosure:
Ideal vented box volume for Scan-Speak 10F/8414G10 is 2-3 liters.
Ideal vented box volume for Dayton Audio RS100-8 is 2-3 liters.

And many more drivers, if 3.5" are allowed.

10F is really a 3”.

The RS100 will work in 2.5 litre (70 Hz — any higher or lower gives a pretty ugly curve), a bump before rolloff, definitely would need a PR, but one is going to be hard put to come up with a reasonable box that will fit one (5.25”) … it can probably be done but will be highly constrained.
