If the drivers are configured vertically (usually best), this lobe will sweep vertically as a sine wave is swept through the crossover frequency. This matters because of how the room will react to it. Stereo effect imaging is particularly dependent on balance in the frequency range of about 800HZ - 6kHZ. When lobing occurs any differently on one speaker than the other, and room acoustics will make sure that happens, the stereo effect is compromised, tainted, blurred, left out in the rain…
If the XO is kept below the magic ¼ wavelength of the C-c distance much of this issue goes away.

A new Delta 10A runs $69 shipped and with its 2.5" coil, has good thermal properties at higher spl.

Henry Kloss made wonderful drivers and speaker systems KLH 6 and 17 had nice woofers

A FAST would be interesting - - little Pluvia and a good 10 woofer?

That's right. When I first put these in the closet the econowave was the big thing. Now there's so much more going on I'm having trouble keeping up.

Planet10 is correct (and thanks for providing the simulations, Dave - I was curious myself).

Erkd, the graphs Planet10 made for you show the predicted frequency response comparing the two 8" Fostex full range drivers. The FF225wk is clearly superior to the FE206En with regard to bass extension in the same box. You can simply take the box you have, replace the front baffle and use the FF225wk with good results. Easy. Maybe Dave will be nice enough to provide the port size for you as well?

Having said that, the other suggestions for multi-way speakers in the box you have are all good - some or all may even be better than simply using the FF225wk. It's all a matter of personal taste and shows how interesting DIY can be.

Planet 10, Godzilla. Thank you guys for your help. I am going to try the 8" fostex driver you recommended.

They are gonna loook so good with the orange grill cloth.

If not already mentioned, note that the FW225 may well need a tweeter - for at least the last 2 octaves?

+1

The FF225wk is a wonderful driver, but it really needs help above 8 kHz.
