Slims are finished! Lovely to look at and appreciate.

The traps needed this many clamps! Should be dry by tomorrow, then I will be ready to sit back and play some music through them.

Yes sorry I meant trapezoid mini onkens (hence the picture with all the clamps)

Been so busy with work, and just yesterday my wife gave birth to our first child.

Thats why this has taken so long! Even longer now I have a child.

But soon enough when I get the chance I'll get to listen to them. For the moment they look good just waiting to be used.

DonVK,

By "traps" what Vishalk meant was "trapezoidal" as in P10 Dave's Trapezoidal Mini-Onken design. :)

Vish, please correct me if I am wrong.

Build came out very nice. You got any chance to give the Slim CGRs a listen?

Congratulations on the new born.

I'm looking forward to your very sleep deprived posts ;)

I hope you didn't squeeze all the glue out of the joints, it can happen. I don't clamp my joints, just weight them

You make a fair point, enough glue was used and it was squeezed equally all round with until all joints looked sealed and closed, yes a little glue was pushed out but not alot. Made sure of this!

Thanks guys, hahaha yes a few sleepless posts will be coming your way.

Actually I'll send my wife away to her parents, giving me peace and time to play with the speakers.

Good, it sounds like you used the clamps wisely to apply equal force all round, glad you were aware of the potential problem. What did you finish them with? I like the colour. Oh, is it just the light, they look a bit blue?

The SLIMS have just been nicely sanded and cleaned, think I may just use some form of matt clear finish on them as I like the look.

Super tweeters?

Any thoughts on the use of Super Tweeters? Bought these at a fair price and decided to freshen them up a bit.

Anyone got experience on using something like these with fullranges? Just experimenting and seeing if i will like what i hear, if i can hear in that frequency range :D

Wondering if they are any good!

Looks like a ribbon or electrodynamic ribbon. Caps + LPad give a 1st order XO with level control. One has to be careful crossing to a driver such as the A7 with its extended HF. The “large” centre-to-centre may cause sufficient problems to negate any gains from the probably better HF response of the ribbon. One also has to worry about differences in dispersion pattern.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

You can only try it and see how you like it.

Thanks Dave I did have those thoughts when using it with the Alpair.

Like you said give it try and see what If I like it.

What image host are you using by the way?

Trapezoids are almost done!

How does one link like that? Ill Google it and check.

I use an odd browser that lets me configure my contextual menu — you might have to poke around with other browsers.

I control clik the picture in your googgle space, copy the link to the clipboard and post it in the post inside picture tags.

Yes I did paint them white using pastikote paint, they needed a fresh look.

Did you avoid getting any on the ribbon?

dave

Painting a driver, is a risky endeavor. Solvent vapour can penetrate the tape.

Super tweeters like these would be wasted on my ears. I'm hoping you'll post your listening impressions.

BTW if you're interested I've included a link to some simple hearing test s/w. Its automatic, you just hit the space bar when you can hear the tone, so it can be done "blind". A word of caution: set your speakers levels to the low side of normal listening (do not crank it). If you can't hear it, its because "you can't hear it", do not raise the levels attempting to "fix it" otherwise you'll probably blow a tweeter. Free Hearing Test Software
