Bass reflex port shape

Hi,

simple question, I am sure the answer is already here but I could not find:

if I want to use a horizontal slotted shape for the BR port, can I use the surface area an length suggested for the standard circular port or should I make changes?

Thank you Dave.

In the pdf you attached for quantifying the diameter D2 of the squared duct should I consider the longest or the shortest side of the duct?

If I have to consider the longest one, as I guess, it means that the squared duct is longer than the equivalent circular one. Am I right?

I would like to make a kind of clone of the attached speakers using the Fostex FF103WK. I heard them at an audio show some years ago before the appearence of the Fostex FFxxxWK line and they sounded really good and "big" despite their size (27cm height). They have a 10cm driver in a 9 liters box.

Just use the formula with areas.

If the X-section increases so does the length.

You mean FF105wk? Max size vented box i'd put them in is 5 litres. Otherwise you sacrifice quality for quantity.

I was thinking for a 6 liters box as suggested Fostex;
9 liters is the box of the attached picture.

Thank you. I already built A6.2 boxes for my nephews with the plans you sent me one year ago. I am curious to compare A6 vs FF103WK.

Again, FF105wk, not FF103wk?

Fostex's factory recommended boxes are often fails. We have burned a couple builds after following their plans and have changed the tuning on the BR.

Treated, the FF105wk is a treat. Stock it has some spikes in the HF that bothers some. Still i prefer the A6.2p (it treated to… by a bit)

Which A6 and which box?

Apologize for the confusion: FF105WK.

Which A6 and which box?

Online ISD gives almost the same box and and vent.

Concerning my job with A6.2, I built 2 pairs of MicroMar-ken6 one with A6.2p and one with A6.2m.

Both sound very good; to me it was difficult to find differences between A6.2p and m. Maybe, if building again I would choose A6.2m.
