New toy I'm playing with. Built the Tang Band W8-1808 into an open baffle with an Eminence Alpha woofer. Put together sloppily, but does the job for something to play with. Face is a 20"x48" piece of 3/4" Birch. The TB is run full range, the woofer is integrated with a simple first order low pass, total is 4mh. Got a 3mh and a bunch of .5mh and played around a little till I found the sound I like. No attenuation right now. Really enjoying them. Imaging isn't quite as good as the Frugal Horn, but lots more body.

Nice work - looks like a substantial speaker. You might try simple first order HP on 1808 to relieve it from too much cone motion which causes inter modulation distortion when playing bass and HF simultaneously. Maybe 57uF to 100uF?
My new best friend with big caps are oil filled industrial motor run caps. $9 for 50uF and 370v.

Trying to avoid any caps, prefer the sound of a full range, don't want the caps screwing up the soundstage.
$9 for an oil filled 50uF poly cap? source ? - as long as the interaction doesn't prove unfavorable, that might work - I'll used low dcr coils across the fullrange with 250 watt amplifiers, jj - that's a nice clean looking setup - do you ever see 1808 move much on bass heavy passages?

Sounds very nice. You can hear oil sloshing around when you shake it.

The possible nuances that a cap will screw up the sound are far outweighed by the dramatic improvement due to reduction of harmonic distortion that you get when pushing a full range driver through deep motions well beyond what it would move of high passed. In addition, the inter modulation distortion (some call Doppler distortion) because the cone is moving over a large range while vibrating rapidly to emit high frequencies.

I like this combination of drivers on an open baffle. Not sure how a cap would clean things up but certainly worth a try. It's not a perfect sounding system but does a lot of things really well.
I added another 0.5mh to the low pass last night and really like the way it sounds. Not feeling a burning desire to stop running the TB full range right now.
Very nice.
I'm glad you have the thin Ob's feet from the wall.
6' was my min recommendation.
The cap on the full range is always a toss-up.
