Default Old cab designs protected?

Hi all. I guess this is a bit of an odd question, but is there still any valid design protection for the old Altec Lancing cabinetes. I mean, do Altec, GPA, or anyone else, still hold the rights to these old designs?

I`m asking because of an idea for a fun little "clone", with a fullrange driver.
(I might even consider producing a small series of these)

if your going to do this "mini clone" for a commercial purpose then ensuring no one still holds rights or patents to it is important. as far as older designs many are already considered public domain so it would depend on what your cloning. some designs can be scaled others not so much.

You can build any design for personal use from either reverse engineered plans or publicly available plans. Protection is for commercial manufacturing.

I know. I just think this could maybe be such a fun little speaker that it could be possible to sell a small series of handmade kopies, even with their imperfections.

Okay, I`m looking at a 3" Full range driver for something like Freddis suggestion for a cute litte speaker.

It has a Qts of 0,55.
Is that slightly high for a ported flh design?

freddi, do you get lobbying $$ for pushing those Karlson cabs??

afaik, all the Altec designs are public domain. The original Altec company has long ago folded, and the company that still holds the Altec name seems to be hardly existing. I doubt very strongly that any patents exist on the cabinets to begin with from day one. I've never seen a patent notice on any of the cabinets. Drivers, yes. Cabinets no.

_-_-

PS. you can't "scale" a VOT and make it work properly.
