Default Fostex fe203 en-s

I have a pair of these drivers which I've been using in horns with great results, I'd like to move them to a different location where space will be a problem, hence would like to try them in sealed boxes and use a sub. Is the size of the box critical in this context? I'd be very grateful for any thoughts on this subject.

I had mine in a 8l box. They where usable to approx 200hz. I also tried a 30l box With a Scanspeak variovent (Aperiodic box). They rolled off at 100hz, and actually sounded better.

It wasnt pretty, but sounded great.
4x12" in ripole from 30-200, and FE203en-S in aperiodic box.

That's interesting Johan, how low do you think you go this way (minus sub.) I need 140hz or lower. Is that a Raal? Pretty not important with a prototype, looks very impressive.

140hz is definately possible with aperiodic. The rolloff in the 8l box was not too steep, so with a clever crossover you should be able to cross there with CB too.

Yes it is a Raal 140-15d. IMO a perfect tweeter with FE203. They have nearly identical sensitivity crossed over at 3000, and you avoid the breakup of the whizzer. I crossed 4 order LR.

One last question, did you put much stuffing in the box with the variovent?

No, very little. Just insulation material on the cabinet walls. It sounded very unconstrained. I liked it. Maybe more snap in the closed box though...
