For possibly different reasons, I'm on the same page as Bob regarding "plate" amps - but if power needs aren't extreme , the Dayton AP150 is a nicely flexible piece for relatively low cost. Prior to obtaining a pair of them, was running stereo amps such as NAD 2200, Rotel RB870 - all low power stuff compared to Bob's Crowns
The thing is if you are using sealed subs (I am), you need an order of magnitude more power to EQ up the bottom end than you do with a low tuned BR. The up side is that with proper design, you cannot over excurse a sealed sub and if the power available is balances with the driver's max power, you wind up with a bulletproof system. With ported subs, you have to watch out for the excursion max an octave above cut-off and depending on the design cut-off, you may need to watch excursion once the box unloads.
