Default Frugal Horn Mk3 Quick Question

I am wondering how these would perform listening nearfield (5 feet) very far away from the back wall? Basically I am using a corner of a basement as my listening room and the speakers are out in the room with my chair 3 feet from the back wall. I do have side walls...kinda....large bookcases...

It's this versus a Fostex BK-12M with a front firing horn - was wondering if this front firing design would be better in this situation.

Just simply wondering how the bass response of a rear firing horn is affected by not having a rear wall to reflect from.

Steve

Chris says Pensil.

FH3 with the appropriate driver (not FE126) should work fairly well.

Pensil type MLTL with FF125 was my initial reaction as the cited distance from reinforcing boundaries might be beyond the "goldilocks" range for FE126 in this design and listening position might be too close for the other benefit of the rear mouth (ie wide soundstage spread from early reflections) to integrate with the forward firing output.

OTOH, the FF125wk might work quite well in the FH in this application.

What would be nice to have is a catalog of the number of DIY builds of the design listing the driver makes and models. I know that Dave could compile a list of the 70+ pairs of shipped kits, plus our own several pairs.

As for the BK12 - it's a nice little performer, but I think would deliver better bass extension and "weight" if placed closer to a back wall

When we 1st auditioned the A7 in FH3 it was a quick swap out and the damping was left optimized for FE126. Even pulled way out from the wall, bass was very tuneful, but could have benefitted from a bit less pf it, FF125 should have the similar "problem"

In the FH, I was initially thinking of the A7 as research points to it being a cleaner driver with lower distortion.
