Also, Just got a mailing on a good price for the Vifas
Are you going to build the 12 in tall Karlsonator?
Thanks for the clarification X. Yes, I am looking at the Karlsonator!!! With a single $10 Vifas OR OR OR, a Seas a friend just gave to me via email. I don't know which one it is but it is a 4".
My compactron should put out 4 wpc and for computer speakers, that should be enough. I also have a number of subs laying about that I can use to boost the lower end. I wonder what 4 subs will sound like in my 12 x 12 office will sound like???😀😀😀
I got the same thing Bob. Not a bad price.

Wonder if they are following the threads on here, an hope to cash in on the recent talk about the driver. Would be pretty clever.
There are a lot of lurkers around here, and the forum is at the top of search results of you search for the Vifa.

The Vifa's have sold out once in Parts Express, then the new shipment came. I think they are very popular in general - explains how the costs are so low - they must crank these out in huge batches. Having them drop from $12 to $10 ea is just icing on the cake. Funny how a FF225 thread became a Vifa TC9FD thread 🙂 I guess we are seriously getting OT - but I don't mind.

Yes, and the Cornus also. I trashed the ones I made but kept the 1/4" plywood fronts and backs. I can do a much better build now that I've worked with the foam and foamboard a few times.

Cool... finally re-entering the world of speaker building after your long hiatus as a water-cooled class A Pass amp guru 🙂 I want to make a tapped horn sub out of XPS foam sheathing...
Check this out from yesterday. Tested with the Audiotools app.
SPL Readings.
I need to do something with BIG efficiency/sensitivity to get closer to a good match for the Class-A amps. Even if I eventually go with wood it would be nice to be able to prototype in foam of some flavor. Any suggestions ?

Bob,
Sorry to hear that you are not getting the volume you need. Does it sound loud to you? If it is sufficient then that is all that matters regardless what a SPL meter says.
If you want more sensitivity I suggest looking at pro audio drivers that easily hit 95 to 98dB at 1 watt. You can try an Eminence Beta 10CX with a compression driver. Put that in a Karlsonator and you will be rockin'. The higher sensitivity was what got me looking at the Faital Pro 4FE32 (see thread going on now). It has 91dB efficiency. When I run my dual Vifa Karlaonator in parallel drive at 4ohms I get a theoretical 91dB efficiency at 2.83V. It sounds plenty loud at 5 watts and is too loud 25 watts. Your F5 should be able to get you a clean 25 watts right? For grins check out the Tpa3116d2 thread on the class D forum. You owe it to yourself to try one at $17 shipping included to get a clean 40 watt/ch amp that many have said sounds as good as a great tube or class A amp. I have no issues with SPL's using this amp and the dual Vifa's in a Karlsonator - in fact, at 50% volume I can feel a kick drum hit me on the chest from these 3.5 in drivers in a Karlsonator cabinet. If you want a high sensitivity full range solution a Fostex FE166en also has great sensitivity and sims well in a Karlsonator.
I should add that if you want a high efficiency cabinet, it is tough to beat a Karlson K15 loaded with a 12 in 100dB pro audio driver and coax compression driver. I you have $ get a B&C coax, if budget go with Eminence. Another option that is single driver full range is an 8 in BetsyK in a full size k15 cabinet - that sims really well and you avoid the compression driver. It is 95dB efficient.
