Default Lowther Medallion: PM6a or DX3?

Hi! I'd like to choose the "good combo" for a 2A3 SE amp. The two drivers are around the same price. Also, I could upgrade a pair of Klipsh Forte with a new crossover based on Alk engineering design.

Any insight?

Thanks!

It depends, of course.

My favorite Lowther is the PM6A with the 16 ohm overhung silver VC.

I have to agree with Bare. I went through the Lowther stage, and I still have a MLTL on my products page. But the DX2's and DX3's have been on the shelf for years.

My God! Sounds like a sad quote! Mr. Pass seems a bit more "positive"...

Maybe you'd try to work on Forte? Thanks anyway.

Actually, I'd like to have the same quality of my Focal "Mini Utopia" as they're not efficient enough (91 dB) for a 2A3 amp. The Forte is the cheapest and easiest way I have, however.

At BAF 2013 I ran a pair of PM6A's in open baffles with slot loaded woofers
and it sounded quite good, in fact I was told by several attendees that it
was the best sound there.

Of course this is a specific favorite design and I have the resources to make
it work as well as it will. You will find that I have published all the
information, so anyone can build it and find out for themselves at a cost
much lower than your average high-end loudspeaker.

I own more than half the "full range" drivers out there, and of those the only
ones that I put in the same category are the Feastrex D9nf.

But then that's me. What worked for you Bare?

I love the PM6A, but for some reason, I really don't like the DX Lowthers at all. I don't know why. If you invest the time, the results can be astonishing (but I don't think they are for the impatient).

If you're looking for quick, fun results, upgrading the Klipsch crossover might be the ticket (I have some ALK's although for La Scala's). However, you have to really like the speaker to begin with. I rebuilt some Heresy crossovers and while there was a huge improvement, I still hated them

I have not warmed up to them either. At first I thought it might be the lip on
the whizzer, but that was not it.

(yes, double entendre)

Default alternative?

I read the Scott Faller article at "Enjoy the music". Very interesting experience...He passed from Medallion to OB speakers. Then I went to Lowther website to check Mr Pass projects with similar drivers. I could get Altecs 416 locally, it could be another "hot" set of speakers with PM6A or 5A.
Thanks also for Klipsch informations.
