hello
good 2013 ![]() last time I bought failured ipod/radio player Miedion 8503. inside were those speakers marked only UPS 8Ohm 5W. the diaphragma diameter is ~6,5 cm. I want to stack it in PCV tube enclosure and use with small V to I amp. what could be optimal parameters for it like Q, Fs etc? thank you in advance!

... anyway...
the first rough test was very disappointing strong pipe resonance and the bass weaker than I expected, mid/trebles good, very wide stereophony. After some time of listening I have got to used to it but I think: do not walk this way

Did you fill it with some stuffing? Is there a vent? If not, you may want to consider turning it into a bass reflex. Put a good amount of felt or open cell foam at the bottom to reduce pipe resonance. The image of the driver looks a lot like a Visaton FRS8 - but that is a 30W rated driver so not the same.

thank you
no, there was no filling - just quick try... I can see that those speakers were too small power rated. I am going to get bigger/better and fit them inside - would you recommend types? Please write more about this foam at the bottom of the pipes? thank you in advance

Pawel,
Before you give up on that PVC pipe speaker, put some pillow stuffing in it and listen. Or if you don't have any lying around, try fabric, towels, sponges, etc. Anything porous but damps sound waves. It might sound a lot better. Driver recommendations? If you are in the 3 to 4 inch driver size range, my favorite is the Vifa TC9FD. I have heard good things about Tang Band w3-881si. Both are budget drivers at $12 and $10 respectively in the US. The foam I am talking about is like this Amazon.com: Auralex 2SONO48CHA 2 Sonomatt Foam Panel, 48 2- 4'x8'x2, Charcoal: Musical Instruments Regards, X |
