Ever think of building a Cornu Spiral horn? Now you can!

Coen,
I did a sim for Cal's FF125WK driver a few posts back. It looks pretty good and I believe had sufficient xmax. But I think you can get better performance from the W4-1052SDF driver as it has more bass extension and costs less.

**lots of simulations :)**

It's just amazing how fast you come up with those sims, dont do to much work on my account, i almost feel ashamed for posting those now  Those W4-1052SDF drivers do look very nice in the sim, tried them out by any chance?

While X is doing all the hard work, I'll tackle this one. I don't see an advantage to using wood for the spirals but definitely use it for the front and back.

Only looks and durability then, well i still do have 22 foamboards left and it would be a shame not to use them..

It's fast because the model is built and I have a database of 100+ drivers on hand that I have created over time. So no problem to help. I have not tried the W4-1052SDF but I know Prezden has tried the W3-1320SIF and he really likes the sound of it. This one is similar but has poly cone and higher Qts which will give a slightly better bass extension. If you want a sure thing, you can't go wrong with the 1320SIF Bamboo paper cone. No need for fancy drivers with Nd magnets - which will tend to have a more powerful motor with lower Qts and not as deep bass extension for the same fs.

I agree with Cal that wood channels will not sound better - the foam may actually have beneficial acoustic damping effects.

Here is the W4-1879 in a 27.55 in x 5 in deep Cornu - very similar to the lower priced W4-1052SDF, but less bass extension.

Well the driver hunt it still on then. Noticed the W4-1052 is a 4ohm driver, my amp is a 6/8ohm one so i'd rather just stick to 8 ohm drivers. Think the W4-1320Sif will be better then the W3? It has a 0.36Qts.

My mistake I meant Prezden tried the W4-1320sif bamboo. I would go with that driver, as Prrzden said, it is perhaps the best sounding speaker he has heard and he has built 4 Cornu's.

Well i was hoping to try something new, how about this 4.5 inch one:

REVC 7.2 Ohm
Fo 65.40 Hz
Sd 5.02 K mm/2
Vas 5.17 Ltrs
Cms 1.44 uM/N
Mmd 3.90 g
Mms 4.10 g
BL 4.20 T*M
Qms 2.66
Qes 0.69
Qts 0.55
Levc 32.44 uH
No 0.20%
Spl 85.4 dB
Pwr 20w Nom.
X max 4.3-mm 1 way
Coil Dia 20-mm

on the other hand if the ff125wk or the w4-1320 are simply the best there are for the 70/80 cm cornu i might as well pick one of those..

Cornu with W4-1320SIF

Here is the sim for the W4-1320SIF. Speaker is mounted on wall at 48 in above floor (centerline of driver). 27.55 in x 5.0 in deep.

Looks like it should work well.

good luck building it!
