fakeout,

The HiVi F5 looks interesting (even visually ). In a proper box (I am assuming the cardboard one would be pretty leaky) the sound should improve and you should have the desired frequency response. Have you done some modeling in software like WinISD or planning to build a published project?

Also the right XO should improve the sound further - or assuming you will be running it from a PC, if you have a 5.1 sound card you would probably be able to use software XOs and play around a bit with different XO points - you will need 2 amps though. Good to see that you are having fun - maybe time to get a better amp too?

I haven't done any software modeling yet. I was thinking perhaps while I'm doing the burn-in for several drivers, I might finish reading Electronics for Dummies then read Speaker Building 201.

My sound card is an Asus Xonar D1.

I might later on (at x-mas) get an SMSL SA-50 because it has a TDA7294 chip which I read may sound similar to the LM1875.

I can imagine the HiVi F5 in a proper cabinet probably has a lot of potential.

Doesn't go much deeper in a 5 Litre vented box than an Alpair 6P, just play a lot louder.

I was thinking about the potential of the sound in general.

But, I'm just wondering whether someone could answer a question off-hand. I know drivers are different from one to the next but in general, if I went with 8 inch woofers (+tweeters) instead of 6.5 inch woofers (+tweeters), does anyone think I'd miss out on voice quality? (I know this question might belong in the multi-way forum but I already had this thread going.)
