Default Melon Head's State of the "DUMB" Open Baffle Design

First off: Attention all intelligent people, there is nothing to learn here.

This design has no right to belong in this dimension, but I was determined to make it happen.

It is no secret that I am not the brightest spark going around, so this design is dedicated to all the "dumb" people.

I intentionally designed this with out any regard what so ever to accepted design principles, just to see what can be produced by following the "Suck It And See It" philosophy of speaker design
STAY TUNED

So far I have decided to go with dimensions of 45cm wide x 120cm tall. That seemed as good a number as any. I could have gone with 42cm but I will incorporate that number in the design later on somehow. I don't want an anti-climax so it is not good incorporating that number too early in the design stage

All will be revealed soon. I will be incorporating the Seas FR driver in this design. I will be playing around with every dumb idea possible and taking measurements along the way.
It is hard for a dumb person to understand the ways of smart people, and yea I am a man of lttle faith (and 1.5 brain cells). So this will be dumbness meets myth busters.

Default Seas Break In

One Seas FA22RCZ was broken in using 10Vpk Sine Wave swept from 30Hz to 45Hz.
Looks like things have stabilised. I will give it another 24hrs to be sure.

Once I have built up the baffle I will see if I can hear the difference between the broken-in driver and a new one out of the box.
Hopefully have all the wood cut by tomorrow.

Then repeat the break in process for the new one.

Qms seems to be still falling.
Probably keep breaking it in while I am building the baffle

What are you using to do the T/S measurements? I've always used Speaker Workshop, but recently measured some new 4" drivers and the FS (and other params) were way off. I ended up trying with REW and got completely different results that were very close to manufactures specs.

I'll have to measure the impedance of my tweeters again. I'd always been a bit disappointed that their fs seemed to be about 200Hz higher than it should have been. I suspect that SW gives inaccurate results for speakers with very light diaphragms.

Tony.
