A couple of Alpair 6 builds.
I have finally made some time to get these builds underway.

One set of floorstanders and a pair of bookshelves. I have both the 6M and 6P so will see which I like best.

The cabinets are made from solid timber (Matai), with allowance for expansion/contraction.

I think they are very well made. :)

Hi gooki. Can you expand more on the "with allowance for expansion / contraction"? I'm not sure how to accomplish that exactly for solid wood speaker enclosures, but I'm itching to try for my next bookshelf build. :)

Wood expands across the grain.

For the sides and top run the grain up and down, and left to right, never front to
back. You can glue these joins. This way the enclosure will only expand along the z axis.

The front baffle sits on the above 4 sided box with foam gasket all the way around. It is held in place with screws from the inside. No glue.

The rear panel is inset into the 4 sided box using a rebated channel, Approx 2mm clearance, again with a foam gasket and no glue. If you use plywood or mdf for the rear you can simply glue it in place, no need for a gasket or clearance.

Thanks. I love it how the grain wraps around the driver on one of them.

lovely gloss finish. Did you fill the grain? What laquer? 2pack or boggo poly?
