The reflex enclosures pictured in my earlier reply have been built close to what Philips recommended in their 9710 literature: 40 liters reflex. Mine ended-up larger, 49 liters, but I can see how larger would be better as you suggested. There is a bit of a hump around 90Hz, 2-3dB, helps fight baffle step, but does not suit every room as it can get a bit boomy with coincident room modes.

With a forwardfacing 9710 I would try to equalize it, perhaps along the line of Philips 9710/, it sound really bright otherwise.
