rear speakers pop

Hi, I hope someone can help me.I have installed new 4 x 10 speakers in the rear panels of my S-10. I ran some wire from the 4 x 10s to a cheap subwoofer I had layig around. When I first got it going it sounded great. But now months later the speakers pop then I turn the volume up or it hits certain notes. Before I could crank it up no problem. Does anyone have an idea why the speakers would pop.
