helper tweeter for SABA?
I have a pair of saba oval greencones. Think they sound fantastic.
They definitly roll off fairly quick and need some help up top. I have the saba cone tweeters as well but don't really like how they sound. Huge peakyness I can't seem to tame and don't want to live with.
Anybody recommend another tweeter that might match well?
Prefer vintage open backed paper cone but open to other options. No domes. Don't really care about that top octave as much as matching tone and feel.
An oval to match the sabas might be visually interesting.
your saba tweeters; are they open backed?
people who like saba cones like the open backed ones (on open baffle mostly).
isophon and peerless made oval drivers in that range.
and then there is the seas 9tv, which I have and sounds sweeeeeet.
but you might need two of those to match the eff of saba
another idea to explore is a small horn or bullet crossed very high
Ill have to look into that Seas.
Yes, the Saba tweeters are open backed. I like it that way but not stuck on it.
Ive never heard any Isophons. Been curious about them and have seen them for sale from time to time, but cant find a lot of info on them.
I did play around with some bullet tweeters. Not for me. Maybe I had the wrong ones or was using them incorrectly but they felt like needles in the ear. Looking for just the opposite. A mellow rolloff that extends the Sabas a little bit.
I hear you. I have never tried horns/bullets myself, but from what I hear in pro systems, I can tell you that my tinnitussed ears do not like compression drivers.
the conundrum with high eff vintage midrangers is to find matching eff tweeters.
if we discount CDs, we are left with some ribbons and other few exotics.
i am currently collecting vintage gear for my open baffle project.
so far i am considering the following three options for HF:
- B&G neo3 alone
- neo3 on top of seas 9tv
- seas 9tv + 5tv
My mid driver choice (isophon or seas) is probably a bit less eff then your saba.
If you don't need that much eff, you might try padding down saba or go for some other isophon/seas mid. That would increase your options for a tweeter.
