i've just picked up 2x SOVEREIGN 12-200LT for £40 (impulse buy) from local classifieds listed as new in box. guess my fullrange driver i was looking for is kinda sorted now.
i looked on the Fane website and they have pretty good looking response to 8k then they die on their ****, so they're probably going to need a tweeter at some point. will decide after listening. until then i want to try them out on their own in the up-to 8-10k region which should be ok for acoustic type stuff? they're mentioned on a thread on here, that the person attached a phase plug to sit on the secondary cone. as far as i understand this helps with high end. any use for me before the tweeter is possibly added? what type of enclosure should i try and put these in? standard ported enclosure doesn't really fill me with excitement....

You could try a BiB - but it'll be massive:
A quick spreadsheet calc gives 68" tall (for Fs = 50Hz, so Fp = 25Hz), 25.5" wide, and 35.5" deep. Eep.

579x795x427mm which will need a pair of stands to get a 42" listening height. i measured them with hornresp (i think ) and they seem ok but not really 'spectacular', the left graph. right is the subwoofer which will likely only be on for use in movies or bass heavy music - so not that a huge amount.can i have a link to the BiB designs? i presume this is the 'bigger is better' i have seen coined a few times? i don't mind big as long as it justifies the size.

i'm also not going to start and complain about the amount of filth given by google when using 'bigger is better 12 inches'

ok BiB is pretty appealing BUT! do i really need to extend down as low as those designs go if i have a subwoofer available? especially one that is already about the size of a small woman?

Might work well in OB, perhaps (Qts looks about right, IIRC)- 'specially with a sub to fill out the bottom end.
