I'm mostly listening to music infront of the PC and I seem to have no other options. I have to place my future horns ON or NEAR the desk. I think it's best to use small horns on stands, what do you think?
I'll be making horns with fostex Fe103en, but now it's time to decide - big or small horns. Here's a pic of the room they have to be:

I definitely vote for ON the desk, at ear level, with a desk rearrangement. Hopefully someone can chime in with a suggestion short enough that meets your criteria.

I would go for Cheap Trick 164, floorstanding and for 4" drivers
Single Driver Website Fullrange-Horn mit FE103 ? If you go for desk horns, take horns for 6.5" or 8" drivers and scale them down to the 103 size. http://www.lup-berlin.de/archiv/Bausatz/img/h530.jpg |

I have stopped on the cheap trick 164, but I'm confused if it will sound good when placed this way.

Hmm, seems like I had this same discussion recently here....... Regardless, tall horns next to the table with the mouth directly under the driver, or better still, the driver pod recessed in the mouth, is what I'd do except you show an offset seating position; so doing wall mounted horns located wherever required to get the required offset/toe in like one guy did many moons ago with small Fostex? drivers should work well.
Unfortunately, the link is long since dead and the WayBack Machine couldn't find much when I looked for it some years ago, but basically, he made very flat, angled mirror image horns with the driver pod at seated ear height and the mouth terminated at the ceiling to get a decent 1pi loading. GM

A good thing is, CT 164 speakers will line up with my ears exactly. It's not hard to adjust a few cm if needed.
I was worried only about the worrying desk. But perhaps I could build damping materials and adjust the sound if needed? |

I have built the Vampyrs for the Fostex FE103
http://homepage.mac.com/tlinespeaker...1v1-010109.pdf Even if they are placed rather high, for hearing music while working with the pc, I'm very happy with. |

I tried first the BK101 and compared it with the bass reflex recomended by Fostex for the FE103, and the bass reflex sounded better in my opinion (more bass an less boomy) but afterwards I compared the bass reflex with the Vampyr and this one was much much better (clearer mids and better bass).
