Alpair 7? Those look gorgeous! Very professional looking

How does that sound, how is the soundstage? I got some Alpair 10s for my parent's home theater in P10 bass reflex boxes. I liked the sound but I wasn't really AMAZED like when I first heard my fostex FE108E sigmas, I didn't like the HF quite as much (in fairness they are behind some acoustic fabric that isn't totally acoustically transparent, though I also heard them without the fabric). Ever since I've been a bit wary but I still want to give the Alpair 7 a chance.

My fostex horns give a huge awesome soundstage but that of the Alpair 10s wasn't as good IMO, though the bass was fantastic

Alpair 7.3 w/ EnABL. I can't say that I feel anything is lacking with these. I was running them with Latino M-125's, but tried a TubeLab SE 300B today and it sounded markedly better. I find, and believe the general consensus to be, that these drivers are very revealing. My great source material sounds great, and the not so great...

I had a pair of FH3's with Fostex drivers and didn't like them - the mid range was too 'forward' for my tastes.

yup if you're referring to the FE126E, they can be like that for some folks - I personally don't mind them much, but unquestionably the Alpair7.3 is a different animal altogether

very pretty mr Jones - especially the outriggers

kctess5 - the A10s are quite impressive themselves, but for my taste don't quite match the 7.3's upper mids and top (even for us over 60)

Thanks much, Mr. B. Indeed the FE126E. It's not that I didn't like them, they were just very fatiguing to me at any appreciable volume.

The outriggers were the easy part - you recognize the cones and the knurled nuts were from McMaster, and a stupid sum of money to FPE for the rounded bars.

The veneer was the tricky part (first time), especially the baffle where the grain changes direction every inch or so. Next time I think I'll try paper backed instead of raw.

my finished product

I finally completed my build. Here are some pics of my frugal's. The finishing is not quite as I would have liked but that's ok 'cause the listening pleasure they provide makes up for it all! :D

Craftsman style Frugal-Horns

Just about finished my first build, Mk 3's with a Arts & Crafts twist. Someday I'll make them out of oak ... but for now its paint and vertical Doug Fir veneer. CHP -70s and I am happy with the sound. I'd like to build two mono tube amps for each speaker, hopefully on 12V DC. Any thoughts.
