Default dMar-Ken7.3 speaker build

These were a commission build for a guy who wanted a pair of speakers he could lug around on his travels and listen to in his hotel room at nights.

They are finished in a rather expensive Ziricote veneer which had been book matched for eack speaker. Finish is Liberon Finishing Oil with a light waxing.

They are resting at the moment on some stands from another pair of speakers and hooked up to a SS amp with CD on repeat to burn-in the drivers.

Initial listening impressions to establish that both speakers work and are in phase are very favourable. I'll leave them running thus for few hours before I sit down and have a serious listen. Other speakers/ cabinets to build first whilst there's still daylight this side of the pond.

The photos don't really do justice to how nice these look in the fleah. I just hope the client likes them.

Now they are just about the best looking small speakers I've ever seen, lovely job!

Thanks for the compliments on the looks. I do hope I get a similar reaction from my Scottish friend for whom they are destined.

The photos make them look larger than they actually are.

O/A dims are 240mm wide x 230mm deep x 360mm high.

I think the intent is to make up a couple of carrying cases from thin ply and lined with acoustic faom. Or any suitable sized aluminium/plastic flight boxes, if I can find any to buy off the shelf.

Hello Chrisb,

Took me while to sort out the 6 veneer consecutive-cut leaves to select which sections to use and then book match the panels. The end results though are very pleasing.

I was a little afraid the end user might not like the rather dark finish. He chose the veneer from the samples I had but in hindsight I should have whetted out a small area at the time so he could see how dark it would go with finishes.

In the end he has voted very favourably to the piccies I have posted up. So I can sleep a little easier tonight. Phew.

Here is a photo of the raw veneer

The actual wood is darker and richer in colour than the photo suggests.

I have plans already drawn up for such a road case if you'd like.
