I have searched, and found to no avail, anyone who has used the Scanspeak 10F/8424G00 as a full range? or possibly with a helper tweeter.

I have only really found these threads, but no actual listening opinions.

As a mid range, and not full-range-

I have been looking into some mini monitors for a specific application-

And a previous thread with my impressions of other Full Range drivers-

More recent (enough output) from a sealed BB3.AL-

And its been suggested that a full-range driver might suit me better.

This is for low level listening, in a small 8ft square room. SPL Output/bass depth is not an issue.

Thanks, Rob

I'd say (without direct experience with the driver) that this is a mid range driver that exhibits extended range. Even though you don't need bass. Voice coil magazine apparently reviewed it saying it wasn't good below ~800hz. Additionally, John k, zaph, and Mark K have measured it saying the bottom is only good to ~500hz. If you look at the spec sheet. This thing is closer a 3". Most 3" drivers, even intended for full range, don't like playing any bass.

Dave, would be interested in your thoughts on the 10F when you have had a chance to play with them. :)
As mentioned, i was having enough output with the Vearvox 3/Omnes Audio BB3.AL so higher SPL are not an issue for me.
I would like something that bridges the gap between small mid bass mini monitors and full range drivers, and this seems to fit the bill.

I have a pair of these for testing as a FR. I got them because Joachim really likes them. They seem quite expensive and will need to be VERY good to compete with FF85wk or Alpair6.2

Hi there.....did you ever play with those? If so, what where they like as full ranges. Particularly interested in the top, as I'm laning to use them with an 8" for bass. Any info very appreciated.....

Hobby HiFi Germany

Hi

The german magazin Hobby HiFi has testet it and found it to be a good driver for FAST projects.

In their latest issue they have a build for a FAST project with a Scan Speak 10" Discovery driver in a closed cabinet, they crossover at 330 Hz 2. order and the result should be very pleasing.

After reading the article I orded all the parts for it and the parts arrived friday so I might start building in about 2-3 weeks.

Best regards

Uwe

Inrank, do you mind saying if you're the one who wanted to sell your Omnes Audio BB3.AL and why? I'm only casually wondering because I bought a couple of Veravox 3X just for the fun of it. (I still have more reading to do before building speakers. Mine are still in a box. I don't know how to hook anything up at this point.)

I sold the little BB3.Al's as at the time, i was really cash strapped, and sold all my hifi! I never made new boxes for them, just put them in the old original Ikea Bowl speakers I made many years ago for the Bandor 50mm drivers.
I should have kept them really, I tried them in OB and they were very life like with vocals, and obviously missing most of the bass.

I have 4x Fountek FE87 sitting at home still waiting for a project to start, I was hoping that they would have at least 90% of what the Bandor/Veravox drivers do.

Just for the fun of it, I'll post information I got. I sent a question to the info email on the Capriccio Continuo ... website and they confirmed they made the Veravox drivers. They said now 99% of their production goes to OEMs. And also that the Veravox 3X (Omnes Audio BB3AL) was made for tube amplifiers.

I was kind of tempted to ask them where I can find speakers that do use their drivers but didn't bother. I had read some positive comments on various Veravox models though.

Can you comment on how good the Fountek FE87 sound? I see they're cheap and shielded. Also, if you ever wondered, the Veravox 3X are still available at solen.ca The only thing is, they have no mounting holes. http://solen.ca/pub/cms_nf_catalogue_fiche.php?id=2034&recherche=&numRows=&manufacturiers=32&niveau1=1&niveau2=1&niveau3=

The 10F is not very deep [possibly nice for time alignment] so just a slight small waveguide, or, a tilted baffle would allow time aligned TM.

Seems like this would make a great midrange in a 3-way if you want wide dispersion? Looks like a quality build, physically quite attractive little driver and tests very well too - just be sure to pay attention to chamfer out the rear of the cutout for this driver, unless you mount it on a 1/4" aluminum plate or such...

Scanspeak is a very very capable manufacturer. There is a reason why so many high end designs use Scanspeak. I expect good things with it when coupled to a woofer. The test results were superb. Hobby Hifi published a FAST design with it recently, unfortunately it's a big ugly beast.

There's no doubt about SS's heritage and expertise, or the veracity of their published specs, but to address the question of the 10F directly - while the first page of the PDF specs is titled "Fullrange", it is classified under their product category as a midrange driver - a duty it most likely serves very well - but a close look at the FR above 3K would suggest issues if used unaided in a FR design
