My initial feeling is that the driver seems over priced but i've yet to hear it so that's hard to say.
Secondly, Re: the fostex recommended cabinet - Fostex FE203En-S Special 8" Full Range: Madisound Speaker Store - appears a departure from other Fostex premium EZ and Es-R 6.5 and 8" driver blh plans employing heavy damp 18mm and 36mm thick panels while the 203En-S cabinet is predominantly of 15mm pannels. Given the larger (8") driver and cabinet size, i question the resonance behavior of the recommended blh. I'd hope it's factored into it a'la the PHY-HP crescendo, grand crescendo etc., constructed of 4mm thick panels meant to allow the construction to resonate just as a violin or acoustic guitar does. Musical Affairs I know at least one person here had good results with the Sachiko/203En-S. The high sensitivity and lighter weight of the factory BLH (if sound as), are appealing to my recent 45 type tube fetish however my 96.5db 166Es-R's are sufficient there too. I'm interested what others with more experience then i think of the driver vs. the competition such as the L'CAO Alnico at almost half the price, as well as the recommended BLH cabinet. |
